ENVIRONMENT & FORESTRY

The environment is becoming more of a concern. Blom’s mapping and remote sensing capabilities can play a major part in assessing environmental impact of new development and analysing current issues, such as flooding.

Blom generates information databases compiled from combinations of aerial photography, hyper spectral scanning, bathymetric laser scanning and LiDAR to provide data on terrain, seabases, land coverage, snow volumes and vegetation. These databases can be introduced in information systems that are used to support management decisions. Flood modeling systems and forestry management tools are examples of high value added applications based on Blom’s information databases.

Of particular interest to environmental studies is the Group’s hyperspectral scanner MIVIS (Multispectral Infrared and Visible Imaging Spectrometer) which operates throughout Europe. This system collects 102 spectral bands including visible, near infra-red (NIR), middle infra-red (MIR) and thermal infra-red digital data.

Blom is the world leader in coastal modeling for environmental studies. Blom provides bathymetric & topographic LiDAR services using Blom´s Hawk Eye sensor, an aircraft bathymetry laser system. The technology is capable of collecting both seabed and land data simultaneously, improving consistency and accuracy along the shoreline. In combination with a digital camera sighted co-axially with the laser optics, it is an excellent tool for survey, mapping, charting and environmental assessment of shallow waters and the coastal zone. The coastal models generated have much more richer information than any other one existing and have information about the seabed in low depth waters that is usually very difficult to obtain by traditional methods.

Environmental Agencies and private companies use Blom environmental and forestry models for their studies and consider these information databases essential to be incorporated to their information systems and for the applications for management decissions support.
